Bollywood Dogg

The D O Double G has dipped out of America’s West Coast hip hop scene and into the West Coast of India’s movie scene. Snoop Dogg has rather surprisingly popped up on the Bollywood scene.

Bombay homeboy

The Dogg teamed up with Bollywood tough guy Akshay Kumar to record a hip-hop video for the eagerly anticipated Hindi movie “Singh is Kinng”. Snoop swapped the du-rags and pimp-suits for a turban and traditional ‘sardar’ for the video, soon to be released on YouTube.

While the video of the title track will be released on television closer to the theatrical release of Singh Is Kinng, the song, which Snoop Dogg recorded alongside UK based Bhangra outfit, RDB, has been the first track to be released from the film’s soundtrack. The project is the first ever collaboration of its kind between a big international music artist and the Bollywood film industry. An extremely important synergy, the video and track will be showcased and available on mainstream music platforms across the globe.

Producer Vipul A.Shah told the press Snoop Dogg is “really keen on wowing the Indian audiences” and that he’s talking about appearing in a movie with Akshay Kumar. He’s not the first American to head over to Bollywood, Will Smith has been harping on about it for the last two years, and even turned up on the Indian version of Pop Idol recently.
