Eight Moorgate - a club with a view
Before the paint had even a chance to try, we barged our way into Eight Moorgate to have a shifty around inside London's newest private member's club

Bored? Tired? Hungry? Fed up of having to fight with the plebs to secure a square inch of bar space in the over-priced watering holes of the Square Mile? Fed up of living in London but never getting to see any of it? Maybe Eight Club EC2 is for you.
Adding to the ever-snowballing number of private member’s clubs in the city – recession, what recession? – this new venture from property developer Brandon Kingsman boasts a 360 degree panoramic view of London’s skyline, glass lift, pewter bar, on-site tailor, library, bespoke shoe maker, private cinema, library and much more, packed into its 9000 sq ft of space.
When we popped down for a visit, the place was still a little way from being completed, but perched on the sixth floor terrace with a rather fine cocktail in hand, a fat Havana in the other, and another on the way, we couldn’t help but come over a little Bond.
The club’s two floors have been newly built on top of the existing building, tucked away at the northern edge of the City, constructed entirely from glass and steel. Inside it’s modern but with an emphasis on old school elegance in the fittings, with large velvet chaises, leather armchairs and porcelain chandeliers.
We can’t attest to the quality of the kitchen, but the canapés were damn fine on the night, and for a fee of £77 a month (or £800 + VAT annually) members also get membership to the sister club near Bank, as well as a complimentary subscription to the luxury Mr and Mrs Smith Silversmith Travel Concierge Service, complimentary club hire, and regular private member’s events.
